Gift Aid in Northern Ireland

If you pay tax, Gift Aid is a scheme by which you can give a sum of money to charity and the charity can normally reclaim basic rate tax on your gift from HMRC. That increases the value of the gift you make to the charity. So for example, if you give £10 using Gift Aid that gift is worth £12.50 to the charity. You can give any amount, large or small, regular or one-off.
If you are a UK taxpayer, for every £1 you donate, IQFA will receive an additional 25p from HMRC. All you need to do is complete a Gift Aid Declaration. You only need to complete the Declaration once, as it will cover any future donations you make. There is no minimum amount you need to donate – the only requirement is that you are a UK taxpayer. It’s that simple.

Bequest

Leaving a bequest in your will can make a real difference to those less well-off. Any legacy left to a charity is exempt from tax, so IQFA would receive 100% of any gift you leave.
Here are 3 ways you can help:

  1. When writing your will, you can remember to include IQFA. If you already have a will, you can amend it at any time to include a gift for IQFA. It’s easy.
  2. Donations of life insurance allow you to make a significant donation down the road by making modest contributions now. By purchasing a new life policy and naming IQFA as the beneficiary, the premiums paid will be recognised as a charitable gift and you will be eligible to receive tax benefits. Alternatively, by donating an existing policy, you will earn a current income tax deduction.
  3. As an alternative to leaving a bequest, you could ask that instead of flowers people donate to IQFA.
